How to Send Subscription Reminder Emails with ActiveCampaign and Studiocart

Looking for a way to inform your customers their monthly subscription payment is due soon?

We’re currently working on adding subscription reminder emails and many more new features in the next major update, 3.0. But until then, if you are an ActiveCampaign user, we have a solution you can use right now.

Today’s tutorial will show you how to setup  subscription reminder emails in ActiveCampaign with an easy to use automations template.

This template will automatically check what month it is, determine the number of days to wait based on the month, and then send a reminder email to your customers every month.

Which should help your customers to remember to check their bank accounts and prevent your subscription charges from bouncing on the first attempt.

Shout out to one of our Studiocart members, Patrick, from CLIL Media who created this effective automation in ActiveCampaign and provided a copy for all of us to use.

How to Set Up Subscription Reminder Emails with ActiveCampaign

Before you begin, you will need to prepare a subscription renewal email in ActiveCampaign.

To help you put this together quickly, we’ve put together a subscription reminder email template. Simply swap any text in [brackets] with your own information or use it as a guide to write your own.

Subject: Your [membership name] payment is due soon

We hope you are enjoying [membership/program/product].

As a reminder, your subscription payment of [$cost] is due in [X] days. If you wish to continue your subscription, no action is required. We will automatically charge your nominated account in [X] days.

To get started, go to Automations in your ActiveCampaign dashboard and select create an automation>import an automation.

Then copy and paste the URL below into the field box provided.

Once you have imported the automation template, select get started and choose the automation titled “Monthly Renewal Studiocart”.

From here you can add your start trigger and add your reminder emails.

Set your trigger as “tag is added” and choose the same tag you set up for the ActiveCampaign integration in Studiocart.

If you haven’t yet set up your integration with ActiveCampaign in Studiocart, check out this doc to learn how. ActiveCampaign Integration

Note: The automation starts when the customer enters, it does not depend on a custom field. It is not possible to change the start date of the membership after your customer has entered the automation.

Now it’s time to add the renewal email you previously created in ActiveCampaign. Scroll to the action “Send an email” and select your email from the list.

And that’s it! When you’re ready switch the automation to active and sit back while Studiocart and ActiveCampaign take care of your subscription reminder emails.
